Curating in Context
About the
Curating in Context offers critical reflection on diverse socio- political and economic contexts, as well as a possibility to develop curatorial methods to rethink the practices of contemporary (performing) arts in relation to activism, self-organization and critical thinking.
Thematically, Curating in Context is related to the question of the
curatorial and its extended understanding, which goes beyond black or
white box presentation and representation politics. The school analyzes
the environment in which art is produced and disseminated, and it
focuses on the creation of knowledge and opportunities for practitioners
who want to pursue their career as curators in the field of performing
arts and interdisciplinary approaches.
Curating in Context critically reflects on the perspectives of
producing, advocating, initiating diverse models of presenting and
articulating art within a certain context.
In 2021, Curating in Context will be developed in three modules:
- Summer School: 29 August – 4 September 2021;
- Mentoring process and developing projects, texts or ideas for a curatorial project: October-December 2021;
- Editing and Publishing of developed projects, texts or ideas for a curatorial project on the web site as an e-publication which will be self-organized by the group (2022);
Curating in Context is co-curated by Biljana Tanurovska–Kjulavkovski and Slavcho Dimitrov.
Course teaching methods:
Curating in Context will give insight into diverse relevant and recent themes dealing with the contemporary (performing) arts and the curatorial approach, as well as practical methods in developing a project, text, programme, etc.
The course will provide a collaborative environment, enhance self-organized working modes and peer-to peer analyses, mentoring exchange and other approaches that would enable fluidity of knowledge and its production through a process of exchange.
Format:
The programme includes lectures, seminars, workshop, artists and curators’ talks, discussions and interviews, as well as production of curatorial works and co-curatorial publication.

Тимот на Локомотива со задоволство го најавува почетокот на второто издание на Летната школа „Курирање во контекст“ која нуди критичка рефлексија за различните социо-политички и економски контексти, како и можност за развој на кураторски методи за преиспитување на практиките на современите (изведувачки) уметности во однос на активизмот, самоорганизацијата и критичкото размислување.
Тематски, школата „Курирање во контекст“ е поврзана со прашањето за кураторското и неговото пошироко значење кое ги надминува црно-белите кутии на политиките на репрезентација и презентација. Школата ја анализира средината во која се создава и шири уметноста и се фокусира на креирање знаења и можности за практичари кои сакаат да ја продолжат својата кариера како куратори во полето на изведувачките уметности и интердисциплинарноста.
Школата критички се осврнува на перспективите на производство, застапување, иницирање различни модели на презентирање и артикулирање на уметноста во одреден контекст.
Во 2021 година, „Курирање во контекст“ ќе се одвива во три модули:
Летна школа: 29 август - 4 септември 2021 година;
Процес на менторство и развој на проекти, текстови или идеи за кураторски проект: октомври – декември 2021 година;
Уредување и објавување на сработените проекти, текстови или идеи за кураторски проект на веб-страницата како е-публикација која ќе биде организирана од групата (2022 година).
Школата „Курирање во контекст“ е ко-курирана од Билјана Тануровска – Ќулавковски и Славчо Димитров.

„Курирање во контекст“ ќе даде увид во разни релевантни и актуелни теми кои се занимаваат со современите (изведувачки) уметности и кураторскиот пристап, како и практични методи за развивање на проект, текст, програма итн.
Курсот ќе овозможи колаборативна средина, ќе го подобри начинот на самоорганизирано работење преку меѓусебна анализа, менторство и други пристапи што ќе овозможат флуидност на знаењето и негово производство преку процес на размена.

Summer School “Curating in Context” 2020 is developed and organized by Lokomotiva Skopje, as part of the two-year long Erasmus+ project (Curating in Context) which is co-organized between two NGOs (Tanzfabrik Berlin and Lokomotiva Skopje), and two Higher Education Institutions (Stockholm University of the Arts and the University of Zagreb).
Curating in Context project was developed in order to respond to the challenges that the growing influence of the concepts of curating and curatorial pose in the contemporary art field, beyond the sphere of visual arts. The project focuses on creating knowledge and opportunities for students, practitioners, curators, scholars and cultural workers to critically reflect and address different socio-political and economic contexts, and develop curatorial methods to rethink the practices of performing arts in relation to activism, social movements, and self-organization. During the two years, the project will result in a series of meetings, public events, and various resources that will thematize collaborative learning approaches through curating between politics and policies and valorization of art with the greater goal of manifesting the impact of the cultural and civil sectors on society.

Курирање во контекст
Летната школа „Курирање во контекст“ 2020 е развиена и организирана од Локомотива Скопје, како дел од двегодишниот проект Еразмус + (Куратирање во контекст) кој е коорганизиран помеѓу две невладини организации (Танцфабрик Берлин и Локомотива Скопје) и две повисоки Образовни институции (Стокхолмски универзитет за уметност и Универзитет во Загреб).
Проектот се фокусира на продукција на знаење и можности за студентите, практичарите, кураторите, истражувачите, теоретичарите, и сите останати културните работници кои се стремат критички да ги промислуваат различните социо-политички и економски контексти и да развиваат кураторски методи со кои ќе ги преиспитаат практиките на современите уметности во однос на активизмот, социјалните движења и самоорганизација.
Во текот на две години од неговата реализација, проектот опфаќа серија средби, јавни настани и активности кои ги тематизираат соработничките приоди за учење преку курирање помеѓу политиката и политиките, и валоризација на уметноста со поголема цел на манифестација на влијанието на културниот и граѓанскиот сектор врз општеството.
Летната школа „Курирање во контекст“ 2021 година, е развиена и организирана од Локомотива Скопје, во партнерство со мрежата Long Life Burning.
