About Us

Lokomotiva – Centre for New Initiative in Arts and Culture

The centre was founded in 2003 in Macedonia, Skopje as a non-profit organization playing the role of a platform for education, reflection, production, discussions and research in arts and culture. It is a small organization, but is a very active participant in the building and development of the democratic socio-cultural space in Macedonia and ex-Yugoslavia region. Through its activities, Lokomotiva aims to widen the access of citizens to arts and cultural events and projects and to influence the development and support of the contemporary, dynamic art and culture as incentive in the development of the democratic society.

Lokomotiva developed and implemented diverse culture and art projects, in different media and formats, such as films, performances, education, capacity building and training programmes, debates, discussions, exhibitions, researchers, advocacy activities as well we other. Lokomotiva understands culture as extended field, co-related with society, and art as experimental communication and post-discipline field that extends the forms of expression, production and dissemination.

Lokomotiva is co-founder of Nomad Dance Academy project network (2006)[1], JADRO[2] – Association of the independent culture scene in Macedonia (2012) and Koopreativa – Regional Platform for culture (2012)[3], founder of Locomotion festival for contemporary dance and performance (2008-2015). Lokomotiva was partner and co-organiser in two 5-years European project Jardin d’Europe (2008-2013) and Life Long Burning (2013-2018) supported by EU Culture Programme 2007-2013. At the moment part of the EU project and network ACT www.artclimatetransition.eu and Erasmus + project “Curating in context” “https://lokomotiva.org.mk/about-the-project-5/.

Since its establishment, the organization is very active in the development of local cultural policy. In the frame of the Programme for Decentralised Cooperation between the region Lower Normandy (France) and Macedonia, Lokomotiva was programme developed and published the first Regional strategy for Culture of the Pelagonija Region in Macedonia (2013-2016)[4]. In 2015 together with Theatre of Navigator Cvetko, Lokomotiva founded KINO KULTURA – project space for contemporary performing arts and culture (www.kinokultura.org.mk) , with the support by the municipality of Centre that holds programs for performing arts as well as for civil society and community. In frame of the project space, Lokomotiva developed and curates the programs: “Art Politics Institution Body”, “What is choreography?”, “Contemporary  dance and choreography”, “Contemproary culture and public policies” etc.

Lokomotiva has been awarded by Swiss Cultural Programme in 2013 The award was given for Lokomotiva’s work, added value and excellence demonstrated in the field of contemporary dance in the Balkan, realised through the cooperation project NOMAD Dance Academy, implemented in October 2007 – December 2010 in partnership with Stanica (Belgrade), Tanzelarija (Sarajevo), Tala Dance (Zagreb), Fico Balet (Ljubljana) and Brain Store (Sofia).

Vision

Lokomotiva is a centre that acts as a platform for development of contemporary arts and culture in order to achieve progressive socio-cultural change in the community.

Mission

Lokomotiva is civil society organization that develops and creates working conditions for development, research, production and presentation of the work of professionals in the field of contemporary arts and culture.

Lokomotiva achieves this by generating new models of collaboration, advocacy in creation of developmental cultural policies on local, regional and international level, discursive, residency modes, as well as development of needed capacities in the community.

In its work the organization respects the principles of openness and access to information, transparency in work; continual internal (through team meetings) and external (through websites, social networks and media) communication; accountability for the work done by preparing annual narrative and financial reports; mutual respect and respect of fundamental rights and freedoms of the citizens and all cultural, religious and gender communities; promotion and support of the cooperation with institutional and civil sector in the country and abroad.

In 2017 Lokomotiva reshapes its program directions, as well as the main goal and specific objectives for the period of 2017-2020.

The main goal of Lokomotiva is to democratize and develop the public space through contemporary art and culture and to influence public policies development. Lokomotiva will achieve this though collaboration, production, reflection, creation of new models of cultural spaces and better working conditions in collaboration with the partners and larger civil sector.

Specific objectives

  • To encourage the development of civil society in the field of culture – creating of new and dynamic civil society in Macedonia that will participate in the processes of creating public cultural policies;
  • To support decentralisation in culture;
  • To initiate and encourage partnership and collaboration between central, regional and local authorities and institutions on one hand, and civil society, on the other;
  • To work on development of new models of cultural institutions;
  • Capacity building for cultural professionals from civil sector and public cultural institutions;
  • Facilitation in the process of development of cultural policies on local and national level;
  • Creation and implementation of new models of education and knowledge sharing in the field of contemporary art practice and theory, which are not represented in the formal education system in the country;
  • Stimulation of contemporary artistic production;
  • To support development of strategies for international collaboration in the field of culture;
  • Affirmation and presentation of the Macedonian contemporary art and culture aboard;
  • Presentation and affirmation of international artists and art and cultural works in the country, and distribution of arts projects and works on international level;
  • Networking at national, regional and international level;
  • Knowledge transfer;
  • Building up its own structure for development of projects and programmes for creation and dissemination of the contemporary art and culture;
  • To encourage critical thinking and development of cultural needs;
  • Education and audience development;
  • Organization of humanitarian events for collecting funds for charity.

Локомотива – Центар за нова иницијатива за уметност и култура

Центарот е основан во 2003 година во Македонија, Скопје како непрофитна организација, платформа за едукација, промислување, продукција, дискусии и истражувања во уметноста и културата. Тоа е мала организација, но е многу активна учесничка во градењето и развојот на демократскиот социо-културен простор во Македонија и регионот на поранешна Југославија. Преку своите активности, Локомотива цели да го прошири пристапот на граѓаните до уметноста, културните настани и проекти и да влијае на развојот и поддршката на современата, динамична уметност и култура како поттик за развој на демократското општество.

Локомотива развива и спроведува разновидни проекти во културата и уметноста, во различни медиуми и формати, како филмови, претстави, едукација, градење капацитети и програми за обука, дебати, дискусии, изложби, истражувања, активности за застапување и друго. Локомотива ја разбира културата како проширено поле, ко-поврзано со општеството, а уметноста како експериментална комуникација и пост-дисциплинарно поле каде формите на изразување, продукција и дисеминација се прошируваат.

Локомотива е ко-основач на мрежната програма Номад танц академија (2006), ЈАДРО – Здружение на независна сцена во културата во Македонија (2012) и Коопреатива – Регионална платформа за култура (2012), основач на фестивалот LocoMotion за современ танц и изведба (2008 г. -2015). Локомотива беше партнер и коорганизатор во два 5-годишни европски проекти “Jardin d’Europe“ (2008-2013) и Life long burning (2013-2018) поддржани од Програмата за култура на ЕУ 2007-2013. Од своето основање, организацијата е многу активна во развојот на локалната културна политика. Во рамките на Програмата за децентрализирана соработка помеѓу регионот Долна Нормандија (Франција) и Македонија, Локомотива изготви програма и ја објави првата Регионална стратегија за култура на Пелагонискиот регион во Македонија (2013-2016). Во 2015 година заедно со Театарот на навигаторот Цветко, Локомотива го основа КИНО КУЛТУРА – проектен простор за современи изведувачки уметности и култура (www.kinokultura.org.mk), каде со поддршка од општина Центар се одржуваат програми за изведувачки уметности, како и за граѓанско општество и заедница. Во рамки на проектиот простор Кино Култура, Локомотива ги разви и ги курира програмите „Уметност Политика Институциија и Тело“,  „Што е кореографија?“, “Современа кореографија и танц“, „Современа култура и јавни политики“ итн.

Локомотива е наградена од Швајцарската програма за култура во 2013 година. Наградата беше доделена за работата на Локомотива, односно за нејзината работа и извонредност во развојот на современиот танц на Балканот, реализирано преку проектот за соработка NOMAD Dance Academy. Овој проект беше реализиран од октомври 2007 година – декември 2010 година во партнерство со Станица (Белград), Танцеларија (Сараево), Тала танц (Загреб), Fico Balet (Љубљана) и Brain Store (Софија).

Локомотива е центар кој овозможува креативна реализација на идеи и критичко промислување, која дејствува како платформа за образование и поддршка на развојот на културата и уметноста заради остварување на прогресивни социо-културни промени во заедницата.

Мисија

Локомотива е граѓанска организација која создава нови можности за креирање, развој и делување на професионалците во полето на современата култура и уметност.

Локомотива ова го остварува преку создавање на нови модели на соработка, истражување, застапување за креирање на развојни културни политики на локално, регионално и меѓународно ниво, како и градење на потребните капацитети во заедницата.

 

Стратешки цели 2015-2019

  • Зајакнување на капацитетите на образовните институции и професионалците во полето на културата во РМ
  • Креирање на систем за едукација во поле на менаџмент во културата и уметноста и културна политика во РМ
  • Креирање на системи и механизми за меѓународна соработка во полето на културата
  • Создавање на нов модел на културна институција во РМ

Целни групи:

  • Уметници: млади танчери и кореографи (студенти по музика и балет во средно училиште, студенти по современ танц на отсекот за балетска педагогија при Музичкиот факултет, самостојни кореографи и танчери од балканскиот регион, студенти и дипломирани театарски режисери и глумци, и.т.н), млади филмски работници и визуелни уметници (студенти и дипломци од Факултетот за Драмски уметности и независни филмаџии и глумци);
  • Културни работници од граѓанскиот сектор, неформални уметнички асоцијации, активистички и активистички групи, маргинализирани и суб-културни групи кои го претставуваат независниот културен сектор и слични организации кои работат во полето на родовата сензибилизација и граѓанските права;
  • Национални и локални јавни културни и образовни институции во земјата;
  • Креатори на политики, носачи на одлуки на локално, национално и регионално ниво.
